Shekkhopir-deshe Durbhikkho: Final Graphic Art

Description

The story of Shekkhopir-deshe Durbhikkho (Famine in Shakespeare-land) is based on academic sources and research which were discussed with the artist Trinankur Banerjee. Trinankur had access to research materials and sources relevant to the story, and from this basis, he developed initial ideas and approaches, discussed these with the project team, conducted further research, and created experimental storylines and sketches. He tried out different styles of characterisation and historical representation. In this final version of his story, he imagines dearth through the Shakespearean character Sir John Falstaff, and constructs a mock-Elizabethan drama staging the disturbing coexistence of famine and plenty.
